Our Friends: "When can you expect to go get your kids?"
Us: "We just don't have any idea. It could be 2 months to 2 years."
Our Friends: "Can we even hope to have them hear this year?"
Us: "Hope and pray. Hope and pray. We just don't know."
That's been the standard response we've given because that's all we've known. We knew that we would gradually gather information as time progressed and we have. Our agency has recently made a trip to Ghana to connect and build relationships with the orphanages that they work with, one of which is the Royal Seed Orphanage near Accra, Ghana (pictured below).
After their visit, they are telling us to plan on waiting 9-12 months for referrals on children under 2. The first 3 referrals have been under 7 months, but it's hard to tell if that will be closer to the average. Of course, because we are requesting (2) children, this could lengthen our wait time, but we're hoping not. So the next time you ask, "When can you expect to go get your kids?" We should at least be willing to say, "Lord willing, early 2014!"
